Our Christmas Tree Hunt
I grew up in a household that put up fake Christmas trees versus real ones each year. “Everyone in our house is allergic to real trees”, my mother would explain to me and, growing up, this reasoning made perfect sense. From then on, the thought or urge to beg for a real one never really crossed my mind…until I came to the following realization:
Everyone in our house was actually not allergic to pine trees. I’m not. In fact, I don’t have any allergies at all (for now), so call me the lucky one!
So, when I moved out of my parent’s house last year, I really wanted to experience a real Christmas tree (not to say our lovely fake trees weren’t as special or beautiful to me). Mike and I decided to pick one out at a local farm, however they were all pre-cut and as pretty as they were, they did not quite give off that real-Christmas tree magical vibe.
This season, we wanted a more authentic tree hunting experience, one that would really set the pace for the holidays.
This past Saturday morning, Pacing Pine Farm in Shirley, MA was our destination of choice for the hunt. We went with Mike’s sister and her husband, and together the four of us raced through the tree farm in search for the most perfect trees in the lot (safe to say Kate and I were WAY more aggressive than the boys were- sort of like Black Friday all over again).
So many trees to choose from!
Midway through our search, we stumbled upon this little guy. It was love at first sight, but just to be certain that we found the perfect tree for us, we continued to circle around the farm a little longer; examining other like-trees and imagining them in our living room. The minute we realized we couldn’t consider any other tree than the first little one, we knew our search was over!
Do you prefer fake Christmas trees or do you go for the real thing?

My entire life i have never had a real tree. Mom always told me that my asthma would be highly effected by it. Still have yet to test that theory and im 27. But i dont want to take any chances so real tree it is. But I like the idea of not having to throw it out in January so I think im okay with it!

We always get a real tree. Pretty sure we had a mixture of both growing up, but we always preferred real. When we lived in ROC, we always cut our own tree at the same farm every year. It was an awesome tradition to begin as a married couple, and got even better when we brought the kids into it too. We have not found a place to cut our own here in NJ, so we purchased a pre-cut this year from the adorable nursery in the next town. Greg has begun researching where to cut our own so that we can continue the tradition again next year 🙂
