Bewitched by Salem, MA
Salem is an old, historic city most well-known for a string of witch trials and hangings that took place there in the late 1600s (yikes!). This notable chapter in Salem’s history draws in hundreds and hundreds of tourists each year especially during the months that lead up to Halloween.
Sails & Sweets
Saturday evening Mike & I, along with our friends Ashley & Don, headed into downtown Salem, MA to meet up with my old college roommate and her boyfriend. The six of us linked up in Salem 2 year’s ago for a night out and had an absolute blast.
We arrived in Salem with just enough sunlight in the day for a little bit of sight-seeing before the evening became pitch black (BIGGEST winter downfall- strongly dislike shorter days!). We ended up passing by the Salem Maritime National Historic Site:
Unsurprisingly, Ashely and I took to the dazzling scenery at the marina as a prime opportunity to take some fantastic couple photos for our blogs:
This one came out great! The rest…not so much.
Wow. who are we??
Next, we met up with the rest of the group and had dinner and drinks at Rockafellas. I ordered my favorite pumpkin beer with a cinnamon-sugared rim while the other girls did it up with some fancy-fall martinis that looked (and tasted) delicious. Being a lover of sweets and all things dessert, Sasha knew to bring me and Ashley over to a bakery called Melita Fiore Patisserie. This new bakery is stocked with specialty cupcakes and other colorful treats.
After the bakery, we hit up Opus, another new restaurant / bar in town. The first thing I noticed about Opus as we walked in was how HUGE the main bar was upstairs! The bar is placed in the middle of the room on the main floor, surrounded by multiple tables and chairs for dining. This was certainly the kind of place that people could flock to after work for a quick bite and drink with friends.
Underneath the main floor was a trendy little lounge that reminded me a lot of the way our apartment looks and feels. The walls displayed exposed brick and offered comfy, black leather chairs for seating. It was the perfect area to just hang out and have a few casual drinks, which is exactly what we did for the remainder of the evening. Needless to say, we will definitely be back to visit our good friends in Salem again soon!
When it comes to treats, do you prefer sweet or savory?

While it is true that sometimes all I really want is a giant plate of chili nachos, I think I turn to sweet more often than savory. 🙂
