Last month I was invited by my cousin Allyson (she blogs here) to Master Mixology with Morgan at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH. Since Cinco de Mayo was right around the corner, the class featured three delicious recipes appropriate for the celebration: Raspberry Peach Margarita, Paloma and Grand Fuego Shot.
Each recipe was crafted around Grand Marnier and Don Julio tequila. They were easy to mix and tasted perfect for the upcoming warm weather (which is half the reason why I had to share them with you! ).
MASTER MIXOLOGY WITH MORGAN
To kick off the night, we were provided a delicious Mexican style buffet complete with nachos and chicken tacos (one of my favorite Mexican entrees). For obvious reasons, I couldn’t resist trying the dessert: fried dough bites sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Recommended by the master mixologist herself, I was not disappointed!
RASPBERRY PEACH MARGARITA
The first drink we made was a Raspberry Peach Margarita. This drink (aside from the Grand Fuego shot) was one of my favorite drinks of the night. It was the perfect margarita to mix up for a barbecue or enjoy during a relaxing summer evening with friends.
INGREDIENTS:
+ 1.5 oz. Don Julio Reposado Tequila
+ 3/4 oz. Grand Marnier Raspberry Peach
+ Lime Juice
+ Salt rim
Garnish: lime and peach
DIRECTIONS:
1. Rim a margarita glass with salt.
2. Fill a pint glass with ice (see below).
3. Pour the tequila and grand marnier over the ice. Fill the rest of the glass with freshly squeezed lime juice.
4. Shake for 20-30 seconds and pour into margarita glass over fresh ice.
5. Garnish with a lime wedge and peach.
PALOMA
INGREDIENTS:
+ 1.5 oz. Don Julio Reposado
+ Grapefruit juice
+ 1/4 oz. Simple Syrup
+ Club Soda
Garnish: lime wedge
DIRECTIONS:
1. Fill a rocks glass with ice and pour the Don Julio Reposado over the ice.
2. Add the simple syrup.
3. Pour the grapefruit juice into the glass almost to the brim.
4. Finish the drink with Soda water and stir with stirring straws.
5. Garnish with a lime.
GRAND FUEGO SHOT
INGREDIENTS:
+ 1. 3/4 oz. Don Julio Blanco Tequila
+ 3/4 oz. Grand Marnier
+ Lime Juice
+ Hot Sauce
DIRECTIONS:
1. Fill a shaker with ice and pour the Don Julio Blanco Tequila and Grand Marnier over the ice.
2. Add 2 dashes of hot sauce and lime juice.
3. Shake and strain into shot glass.
I had so much playing bartender for the evening and loved learning a few new drink recipes in the process!
Start the summer off the right way by attending the next class of Master Mixology with Morgan and learn how to make Sangria! Class will be held on June 11th from 6:00PM-8:30PM at Sky Meadow Oak Room in Nashua, New Hampshire.
What a fun and tasty night!
Thanks, Kaelene. We had a really great time, I had never taken a mixology class before but I highly recommend signing up for one in your area. Plus, I can only imagine how cool it would be if you found one in Iceland!
Oooo I think we need to have some of those drinks at our next shindig 🙂
100% agreed! Surprisingly the Grand Fuego shot was really good, I suggest we mix that up for the next party!
