I’m not going to lie; I’m pretty proud of how great our photos came out from this year’s summer vacation and, with that being said, it would be entirely accurate of you to assume that I am patting myself on the back right now, with both giddy and bashful expressions on my face.
Moving on, our mini road trip down the East Coast was unmistakably one of the best vacations we’ve ever taken together (not to mention the most walking around we’ve ever done as a couple together). The first half of our trip was spent along the Jersey Shore at the beach, which was absolutely amazing BUT, because I’m way too excited about the second half of our trip, I’ve decided to skip ahead a few chapters in our vacation to the day we left the shore and headed down to Washington D.C. Our first stop was George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia.
MOUNT VERNON | VIRGINIA
For those who are unfamiliar with Mount Vernon, it is the place where George Washington lived, died and is buried.
His house overlooks the Potomac River and is absolutely stunning. What I enjoyed the most about walking around Mount Vernon was that, for the most part, you are on a self-guided tour throughout Washington’s estate. This means that like all other visitors to the estate, we were able to walk around and explore the location at our own pace without having to lag behind a tour guide.
The Old Vault is the tomb that was originally built for Washington and his family to rest in after they passed away. However, if you read the sign, Washington wasn’t too fond of this vault so he ordered for a new tomb to be built for him, his wife and relatives. Like a boss. Hello? Anyone home…Hm, guess not.
My favorite part of Mount Vernon was the Washington’s giant Green house and botanical garden.
Before we left to check in to our hotel in D.C., we asked a couple to snap a photo of the two of us together in front of the house. I’m starting to get more and more comfortable with asking strangers to snap our photos when its just the two of us traveling together (it’s much nicer than having to resort to “couple selfies” all the time). The funny thing about this photo is that we were actually COVERED in sweat by the time it was taken.
It was 90 degrees almost everyday we were down there, just wait until you see the rest of my photos. And, on that sticky note, I think I’ll go take a shower.
What is your ideal vacation? Do you prefer relaxing on a beach or sight-seeing in a different city?

My husband and I have virtually no photos of the two of us together. We never manage to ask anyone to take one of us and we really should. Good on you guys for asking – the photo looks great!

Thank you! There are so many places we’ve been to that I have zero pictures from because we either didn’t think to take any or didn’t have anyone with us to take them. It is definitely worth asking a few friendly strangers to snap a quick picture!

I like a mix of both, relaxing on the beach and exploring a new city. Looks like a lovely trip!

It’s so beautiful there!! I actually attended a wedding up there a few years back in the middle of July – with no A/C…brutal lol!! Love your photos – so pretty!

Aha! We were actually imagining what it would be like to get married there, the grounds are so pretty. Thanks, Biana!

We visited Mount Vernon over the Memorial Day weekend and LOVED it! We took advantage of the Sunset Celebration, where they had period lawn games (Game of Graces, anyone?), music, food, carriage rides, and dance lessons going on. I highly recommend it if you get a chance to go back.

That sounds awesome! I will keep that in mind for the future. Thank you for stopping by, Brianne.

Wow, I really really want to visit Virginia! I think it just has so much to offer! It seems so wonderfully green, full of history and just absolutely beautiful! I love your photos!

It really was gorgeous – hot and humid – but incredibly pretty. I highly recommend planning a trip to D.C. and visiting Mount Vernon while you’re down there!

I love the photo with the fence in. The colours are so nice. I don’t mind a beach holiday, but I can’t do many days just lying on a beach, I also need to get out and explore

Thank you for stopping by my blog, Sammy. That photo is one of my favorites too!
